While working at Framestore, I was responsible for creating this snake, Wyona Ryder's digidouble (normal and pregnant versions) and Baby Beetlejuice's digidouble for the film "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice".
Although not visible here, the snake has individual scales all over its body, so it can hold up well in close-ups.
The snakes are 100% digital, while Baby Beetlejuice was used in a number of different ways.
Initially it was used only to replace the hands and feet of the real puppet to improve the character's articulation and creepy movements, but eventually it was used for reflections, shadows and, where necessary, augmenting the practical suit with CG to ensure a perfect final finish.
The team also enhanced the creepy Baby Beetlejuice by adding subtle - and often disgusting - details such as moisture in its eyes, spit and CG flies buzzing around the character's dirty face. The suit augmentations also added to the overall effect.
The same happens with Wyona's digidodouble throughout the film.
